Pc Essentials - Hard Disk Defragmentation

Saturday 31 May 2008 @ 3:51 pm

Let me ask you this – have you ever heard of hard disk defragmentation? I am sure you have but once you heard it you blanked out because it sounded way too technical and if you are like me – technical is not what I do.

I guess it’s kind of ironic that I’m writing a technical article about this subject. But this is for those people who are like me and don’t think about PC maintenance as anything more than emptying our recycling bin. There is a lot of factors that go into making our systems run smoothly – like our cars computers are necessary in our modern times.

Let me see if anything I say next rings a bell with you. Is your computer so slow that you often compare it to an old lady or man on a Sunday morning drive in a Gremlin? Are you tired of opening up Internet Explorer and expecting one window but getting ten instead?

Or you need to write a work document and you open up Microsoft Word and normally it should just pop right up because it is just writing text but takes twenty minutes. PC repair is nothing to shake your first at or cover your ears when you hear it.

One of the first things a technician will ask you if you have defragged the hard drive. Stop scratching your head because they are talking about hard disk Defragmentation.

So what is it, well imagine taking a clay pot and shattering it on the floor. Look at all those little pieces – you just fragmented a clay pot. That’s almost how your hard disc looks. Over time it gets worse and worse. Programs that worked fast now work slower. Programs that worked slow now work slower or just stop completely and sit there for hours trying to find some piece of the puzzle.

You can perform Pc repairs until the cows come home by opening the case and cleaning out the dirt and computer hairballs, but if you don’t run a hard disk Defragmentation utility you are not actually doing much.

Programs will always look for a chunk of space where it will fit but if your program is 10 megabytes and all it can find is a 5 megabyte chunk it will take it then it will look for another suitable chunk. It will continue like that until the entire file is on the computer. Hard disk Defragmentation is the process of reorganization.

Relax, You Still Have A Long Day Ahead

Saturday 31 May 2008 @ 3:48 pm

What do you do when you completely spaced out and forgot to get your husband or boyfriend a birthday or anniversary gift? It is quite inexcusable to forget such an important occasion, but there are times when you are busy with work or some projects that you would tend to forget. So what do you do to make up for it as soon as possible?

Well, the first thing that you should do is to stop panicking. You will never do anything with that. So take a deep breath and coerce your head to start thinking of a great gift for your loved one. It’s still a long day, so you still have time to come up with something - anything.

If you have more time, you can still run to the mall and find a nice gift for your better half. Better forget any personalized items since it would take a longer time to have these done, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t find other unique and cool gifts for men.

What about getting him some gifts for his work? These may not be so special, but they are practical items which he can really use in his office. You could check out a Cross pencil while shopping. Cross is a really nice brand of pens and is known to have impeccable quality. You can even look for a computer briefcase. Your husband’s laptop should be placed in a durable bag that is stylish and tasteful.

If you are done with shopping for a gift and you still have some time in your hands, you can head to the grocery store and buy ingredients that you will need to cook up a delicious meal. Don’t forget to pick out some long white candles for that special candlelit dinner tonight and a bottle of champagne for some toasting.

See what you can do in just a day? And you couldn’t have done it all if you just sat down all panicky, blaming yourself for being so forgetful. But next time, though, it would be best if you keep a calendar of events to remind you of these special dates. You might not be so lucky the next time it happens.

Getting Ideas For Gifts

Saturday 31 May 2008 @ 9:47 am

The most difficult part when it comes to giving gifts is getting ideas. Where do you usually get your ideas? Is it from the person’s wish list, or something you just found while shopping? Thank heavens that in this day and age, there is a tool that can lend a helping hand, the World Wide Web.

Think about it. You can find so many people on the World Wide Web from all over the world with so many different and cool new ideas. Looking for them is quite easy, too, since most of these people usually come together in online forums. You just need to sign up to a particularly active forum and start joining in discussions to ask about gift ideas. You are sure to get plenty of answers.

It would be extremely helpful, too, if you know the person and what he likes. At least, you would have an idea on what he is into. You can also describe the person to your new found online friends so that they can suggest gifts that are ideal for that person. This would also help you avoid errors like leading you to a store for pocket watch accessories when what you should be looking for are great golf gifts.

Some would even give you links to online shops. You might want to check these out, too. Sure, you don’t want to buy stuff online, but there are some shops that really do have a real store somewhere and you can simply drive there and pick out the gift the you like. But if you do prefer buying online, you can simply place your order, say, for instance, a pair of personalized cufflinks, and then have it shipped directly to the recipient of the gift, all wrapped up and ready.

The World Wide Webis a great place to find cool gifts and also to meet new people who have creative and fresh ideas. It is also a simpler and hassle-free way to shop. Just imagine, there are no long lines at the cash register, and the items are always in stock! You can also save on the gas and expenses on transportation, as well.
