Getting a look at the Xerox WorkCentre XE90 printer reveals that the machine one is looking at is quite nice, and that it provides unique multifunction laser printer, flatbed scanner and fax capabilities that make it ideal for most any small business environment. When it’s not connected to a personal computer, it can function very well as a copier and fax machine only. No matter the use, each page comes out with the gorgeous quality one would expect from Xerox WorkCentre XE90 toner.
This particular unit from the people at Xerox isn’t very cheap at nearly $3600. After discounts, though, one can find it new for anywhere from $2500 to $2900. It will put out printed product in monochrome black-and-white and will fit quite nicely on a desktop. Its 18″ x 17″ x 12″ dimensions will allow for it to be picked up and moved pretty much anywhere.
When it comes to print speed, at eight pages per minute this unit is fairly standard for a laser multifunction printer and it uses wired connectivity to hook up to a PC or network with relatively little fuss. The unit uses standard parallel ports to interface between it and a personal computer, which was standard in the industry during the time of this machine’s manufacture.
Maximum resolution in the Xerox WorkCentre XE90 printer is a more than adequate 600 dpi by 600 dpi, and it does not include what Xerox refers to as PostScript support. Maximum paper size that can be handled by this machine is 8. 5 x 14″ and it can handle most standard letter sized pages including A, A4, A5, B5 and legal, in addition to several envelope sizes.
It can carry 250 sheets of paper in its single feeder tray, and the duty cycle comes in at around 1,500 pages. Also, this printer will come with one standard Xerox WorkCentre XE90 toner cartridge good for around that amount. Capability wise, the fax machine supplied is standard at 14.4 Kbps through a modem and the flatbed scanner is 400 dpi by 600 dpi on a single pass.
Time from print task to first copy of product emerging comes in at 10 seconds, which is more than adequate for multifunction all-in-one machines such as this unit. There are no expansion bays or slots, so keep that in mind when thinking about building on those units’ already fine capabilities. Parallel ports are industry standard IEEE 1284, as is the modem connection, which uses standard phone line technology.
The operating system through which this Xerox runs is most of the standard Windows OS up through Windows 2000. It also can work through Windows NT 4.0, making it a good candidate for a small networked group of users. It comes with the standard one-year service and support agreement with an extended warranty available for a nominal fee.
As far as memory storage capabilities go, the fax machine included with this multifunction can hold up to 120 pages of incoming or outgoing faxes should it run out of paper while nobody is paying attention. It can do just about everything, allowing a person to print, scan and copy, while handling incoming and outgoing faxes at the same time. Also, a user can scan a document in and immediately fax it.
When taken altogether, this Xerox printer does most everything extremely well and one doesn’t have to worry about it doing anything poorly at all. This includes, of course, the quality of the prints using Xerox WorkCentre XE90 Toner Cartridge. Simply refilling this printer with quality Xerox Toner Cartridge is one way to ensure the details of your prints and with Qtoner Toner available for replacement, you won’t ever have to have a down day. With this printer, you won’t want to.
