If you try to age a lower quality cigar, chances are any amount of aging won’t improve their flavor significantly. Many high quality cigars that you find too strong or odorous are perfect candidates for aging. Actually any high quality cigar will turn into a better one undergoing the aging process.
You will find it to be a big help if you have a quality humidor. Cigars must be stored in a constant and stable environment. This is a task for cigar humidors. Follow the 70-70 rules. Conditions inside the humidor must follow these principles: humidity level of seventy percent and temperature of seventy degrees Fahrenheit.
Of course, the environment in which they are stored is crucial. And like we said just respect the seventy-seventy rule. Higher than 70 will turn your cigars moldy and lower can break them. That is why you should keep the conditions stable. Any fluctuation will cause problems. What may happen is that cigars can expand and contract, cracking their wrappers and it may turn the aging process upside down.
Also make sure that you only fill your humidor for about 50% so that the cigars still have space left to breathe. The lining should be cedar – cedar wood is highly aromatic wood, full of its own oils. With the passage of time, the interaction of the tobacco oils amongst themselves, and with the cedar oil of the wood it leads to a mellowing and blending of flavors resulting in that subtle complexity you can only get from proper aging.
